ZUBIOLA is legally constituted as a cooperative society and, since it was founded, has been located in Azpeitia, a town of 14,000 inhabitants in the heart of the province of Gipuzkoa.

ZUBIOLA's initial line of business included two activities:

• Woodwork machinery.
• Wood-cutting tools.

In 1985, ZUBIOLA decided to focus exclusively on the manufacture of wood-cutting tools.

In 1990, the team of directors of ZUBIOLA was changed and the company began a new business project. The development of the project, in collaboration with the Ikerlan technology centre, represented intense R&D work whose result led to significant progress in the improvement of the company's products and processes.

In 1999, as a result of the appearance of new highly abrasive materials as alternatives to traditional materials, ZUBIOLA developed polycrystalline diamond tools.
